Saturday, 5th December 2009 - Frozen Fanta/ Cola

So this is my latest addiction. I am addicted to either frozen Fanta or frozen cola. It is frozen, icy and it is really really sweet. The frozen raspberry one is my ultimate favourite. I first had one in Bangkok at the McDonalds. Then found a machine at the Seven Eleven in Singapore. In Cairns they have a machine in all the Night Owls. It is $2.50 a drink, thats about £1.25. I have had one (at least) everyday, but now I need to cool and wean myself off. So currently I am down to one every other day.

Saturday, 5th December 2009 - So we are sorted, it is all booked

So we went to see the crazy man at Dr Tours just across from our hostel and after a very long talk and lots of interuptions we managed to get our itinary sorted.

So we stay in Cairns til the 10th when we get the bus to Mission Beach where we spend two nights at 'Scottys Beach House'. Me and Becky plan on chilling and using the free bodyboarding equiptment, while Katy and Emma are going to do some white water rafting.

On the 12th we get back on the bus to Townsville. Wher we stay for two nights at 'Magnetic Island – Bungalow Bay Koala Village'. If the pictures are anything to go by it looks absolutely amazing.

From Townsville we head to Airlie Beach, on the 14th. Where we spend the night at 'Magnums'. On the 15th we go for two days and two nights on board a boat sailing the Whitsundays. I am really looking forward to this.

On the 17th we get back on the bus and goto Rainbow beach, where we stay one night at 'Pippies'. From here on the 18th we go on a two-day guided tour of Fraser Island. After this we head back to 'Pippies' for a night.

Leaving Rainbow beach on the 21st for Noosa Head, where we sort out accomodation when we are there, from here it is really easy to goto Steve Irwins Zoo, which I am really excited about.

Finally we arrive in Bisbane on December 23rd.

Friday, 4th December 2009 - So... Cairns

So Cairns is not what I thought it would be. Yes it is pretty, but I expected a city, and the locals call it a city. But it is no city, not by my standards. How can I describe Cairns, I'm trying to stay positive. I guess it is like Dewsbury/Batley but near the ocean, always sunny and nicer surroundings.

I guess you can tell I am not a great fan. Well I aint. Cairns is not for me and roll on the 10th December when we leave this place. I guess its 'ok'. There is nothing to do though around here. The shops shut at 6pm and the lastest to you can find an internet place is about 10pm. The ligour store shuts redicoulsly early. The men round here are just d**kheads. I dont know if they are travelers or locals but they are neanderthals. They are like vultures when it comes to the girls. They are all over them like excema and it is pretty gross to see.

They are always fighting and the other night some guy tried to pick a fight with me. I guess that kinda stuff can happen anywhere, but never happended before. It's but a dark stain over Cairns for me though. Bring on Mission Beach and Brisbane.

Thursday, 3rd December 2009 - One month in

So it is one month into our trip. Bangkok seems such a long time ago. It is hard to remember what I have done and where I have been. That is why its is really good to keep up to date with the blog. So I can read back and remember what I have been up to.

It is fair to say it is not easy going. We are doing well though. No fallings out. Everyone is still getting on really well. It is hard being away from home, alot harder than I thought. Miss home and everyone at home. Miss seeing nephews grew, friends new babies, everything really. Can't say I miss the weather that much though. Sorry.

So I just take it one day at a time. And when I know I am ready to come home, its only a 29 hour flight away. (Yes thats right, our return leg is 29 hours, 26 spent in the air). In the mean time I am just going to take thousands of pictures and absorb as much as I can.

I don't think I am a true 'traveller'. I think I have learnt that I prefer to do short travels. But saying that I am having a great time and really enjoying it.

Thursday, 3rd December 2009 - On the move...

So our three nights of luxury at Gilligans was over. We tried in vain to book some more nights but we were denied. Not to worry it did not take us long to find somewhere new to stay. And possibly the cheapest place in town. Its a 4 bed dorm as before, and that is where the similarities end. It has no Air-Con just a massive fan that looks like it could fall off at any time. LOL. It has a fridge, its basic but at only $14 a night it's half the price of gilligans.

Wednesday, 2nd December 2009 - Twilight New Moon

So it was our last night in Gilligans and both Katy and I were both all boozed out.  So we decided to bring a bit of routine and do what we like to do back home.  So we hunted out the local Cinema.  The first one we got to was not showing Twilight; New Moon.  So we settled on 2012.  But I asked at the desk if any where else was showing the latest Twilight movie.

We were in luck.  The cinema at the Cairns Central Mall was showing Twilight.  We just had time to jog backto the room, get changed and head out to the cinema.  We both indulged in some popcorn (sadly satly, not sweet) and some frozen fanta (my latest addiction).

I am sad to say I was not impressed with the movie.  After reading the book and read all the Twilight saga the film just did not live up to my expectations.  Probably because I had set my expectations too high.  But hey.  The graphics was pretty basic too.  Overall 5/10.  Shame.

Tuesday, 1st December 2009 - Denied!

So the plan was to have a few days in Cairns and then get a campervan and travel down the east coast to Brisbane in it. When we enquired today we were met with laughs. So apparently you can't just hire a camper you need to book them in advance, ooops. LOL. Just like us though to be so stupid. So we dont know what the plan is now. May fly to Brisbane, or get the Greyhound. Not really sure.

I am determined not to leave Oz without campervanning some of the east coast, so might just come back to it later on. Got a while here.
